Evolution of Entropy
back to Entropy
photo study

Entropy began as a photograph taken in my studio. I had a still life set up in the corner. A fellow artist was sitting in a chair petting my dog, Sophie.

Stage 1

I became very interested in describing the quality of light streaming through the windows hitting the chair and floor. I painted from life using the photo as a reference.

Stage 2

The painting was constantly evolving. I used charcoal lines to push and explore the composition further.

Stage 3

In the final stages of Entropy, the painting became more abstract as I began to collage onto the canvas. There is only a suggestion of the figure. The objects begin to fragment as they unhinge from gravity and the entropy of the scene increases.
