Explanation of the Triste Alegria series
While I was packing my kids off to college, I came upon the phrase "Triste Alegria" which means "Sad-Happiness." To be an artist, we must give away the very things we exposed our souls to create. Our best paintings leave us and find new homes as do our children … if we have done our jobs right.
These small acrylic paintings were created entirely with palette knives. Ten paintings from this series were selected for the Boston Drawing Project at the Bernard Toale Gallery in 2004 and 2005.
